Admission Criteria

BAC is licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) to serve emotionally disturbed children, both male and female, ages 6 through 17.  BAC is a “TEA Approved Non-Public Day School” authorized to serve students ages 3–22.  Although BAC is approved to service a broader age range, the age criteria established for admission is 6-22.

BAC is able to serve individuals with emotional disturbances, mental retardation, and/or disorders within the Autism spectrum, as defined by the TDFPS, and children who may have other handicapping conditions (as defined by IDEA) such as:

  • Auditory handicaps
  • Autism / Pervasive Developmental Disorder
  • Conduct and behavior disorders
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Mental Retardation
  • Multiple Handicaps
  • Other Health Impaired
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual handicaps

BAC only admits individuals who meet the eligibility requirements.  No person shall be denied services due to race, religion or national origin.  BAC is able to admit juveniles who have been adjudicated provided they have behavior problems.

BAC is not able to serve the following individuals:

  • Without behavior problems
  • HIV positive
  • Who require skilled medical care
  • Pregnant / parenting
  • Primary issue of substance abuse
  • Any individual whose safety would be at risk due to the use of behavior interventions such as personal restraint (e.g. medically fragile)

The steps for admission to Bayes Achievement Center, Inc. are as follows:

  • A referral is made by an interested party to BAC’s Case Management Department
  • A site visit to BAC is conducted
  • The potential resident/student’s Application for Admission is presented to the Treatment Team
  • Pending the Treatment Team’s approval of the application, funding is secured and the placement contract is developed
  • Parent and/or guardian completes the intake documentation and returns it to BAC
  • Schedule admission date

The admission process can be expedited in the case of an emergency placement.
